Stanford Falls To UC Irvine
Jan. 10, 2003 SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Despite 18 kills from senior Curt Toppel (Pacific Palisades, CA), Stanford (1-1) dropped a 28-30, 30-27, 30-24, 30-24 decision to UC Irvine (3-0) in the opening round of the E-Bar Invite on Friday night at UC Santa Barbara. The second-seeded Cardinal will take on third-seeded Pacific in the consolation semifinals at 10:00 a.m. Stanford will play another match on Saturday evening at a time to be determined.
In addition to the 18 kills from Toppel, both William Curtis (Whittier, CA) and William Strickland (Malibu, CA) had 10 kills apiece.
