Giancarlo Aquilanti Named Musical Director of Stanford Band

Stanford, Calif. - The Stanford Athletic Department announced today that Giancarlo Aquilanti has been named the Musical Director of the Leland Stanford Junior University Marching Band (LSJUMB). He will also be responsible for teaching musicianship to the students, helping and arranging Band performances, directing rehearsals and conducting auditions.

Aquilanti is a native of Jesi, a small town along the Adriatic coast of Central Italy. He studied Conducting and Composition at the Italian Conservatory before relocating to the United States in 1985. In 1988, he completed his Master's degree in Composition at Cal State Hayward. He earned his doctorate in 1996 in Composition at Stanford and began lecturing on music theory, composition, and orchestration and conducting at Stanford University. Aquilanti has served as the Music Director of the Stanford Wind Ensemble since 1997 and is very active as a conductor with his music being performed in many European countries.
